Stainless Steel Vent Screen for
Existing Masonry Block Foundations
For existing foundations utilizing a standard 8" x 8" x 16" masonry block as a vent we offer a do-it-yourself kit that includes precut stainless steel screens, cleaning brush, disposable Vulkem cartridge tip attachment, miscellaneous temporary installation accessories and detailed step by step installation instructions for replacement of the existing screen. Installation can be performed from the outside if access to the vent is unobstructed, otherwise the screens will have to be replaced from the crawl space side of the foundation.
You will need Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Sealant, a caulking gun and household cleaner. If the work is to be performed from the crawl space side you will also need a hot melt glue gun.
Please note that as the Vulkem cures the disposable tip will be rendered useless. Most likely you will be able to salvage any remaining Vulkem for a month, but you will need to purchase additional Disposable Vulkem Cartridge Tip Attachments if you do not intend to install all of the vents on the same day.
Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Sealant
Vulkem is a product that we recommend for bonding the screens to the openings. In order for the Vulkem to adhere, the bonding surface will need to be clean and dry.
Coverage estimates: One cartridge of Vulkem for every 3 masonry block foundation vent screens.
One 10.1 Fl. Oz. Cartridge of Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Sealant
(This product is only available with the purchase of screen kits)
** Vulkem is a product that does not qualify for Priority US Mail shipping.
Stainless Steel Vent Screen for
New Masonry Block Foundations
We offer precut stainless steel screen for a standard 8" x 8" x 16" masonry block used as a vent.
Before the foundation is laid-up the screen can be bonded to the block. In this application the adhesive must be allowed time to cure.
After the foundation is built the screen can be held in place using the temporary attachments and framing can begin immediately after the adhesive is applied.
You will need an appropriate type of construction adhesive and the correct size of caulking gun for the adhesive that you select. If the blocks are wet you will need the type of construction adhesive that will adhere metal to a wet masonry surface, otherwise purchase any common construction adhesive that will bond metal to masonry.
