Custom Stainless Steel Replacement Screen
for Existing
Foundation Vents
We offer replacement solutions for various vent
configurations in existing foundations. Our do-it-yourself kit includes
precut stainless steel screen sized to your vent configuration, cleaning
brush, disposable Vulkem cartridge tip attachment (for inside screen position),
miscellaneous installation accessories and detailed step by step installation
instructions for replacement of the existing vent screen. Installation
can be performed from the outside if access to the vent is unobstructed,
otherwise they will have to be replaced from the crawl space side of the
foundation. The surface where the screen is to bond will need to
be clean and dry.
For screens positioned on the crawlspace side-
The perimeter where the screen is to bond needs to be in one plane, without
voids such as rock pockets caused during the pour or a void at the top
in the instance where the sill plate acts as the top of the vent and is
set flush with the outside wall, leaving a 1/2" void from the inside face
of the foundation wall. If there is a wood form that makes a surround
for the vent it should be in good condition (not rotten), and as above,
the inside edge should be free of voids.
You will need Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Sealant
in a color that will be best suited to your vent configuration, a caulking
gun, household cleaner, and in addition, a hot melt glue gun if the work
needs to be performed from the crawl space side.
Please note that as the Vulkem cures the disposable
tip will be rendered useless. Most likely you will be able to salvage
any remaining Vulkem for a month, but you will need to purchase additional
Disposable Vulkem Cartridge Tip Attachments if you do not intend
to install all of the vents on the same day.
For screens positioned on the outside-
The first inch extending from the outside
wall into the vent needs to be of sound material and reasonably straight.
You will need to supply us with width and height measurements for the
various openings (some field trimming of the screens and/or parts may
be necessary).
You will need Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Sealant
in a color that will be best suited to your vent configuration, a caulking
gun, and household cleaner.
